The Spirit of Sorrel (Roselle Hibiscus)

The Spirit of Sorrel (Roselle Hibiscus)

Sorrel is a gateway plant. I knew that this is what is true for me, but when I was speaking at the Florida Herbal Conference an attendee told me about how sorrel was also her first plant of study, and her entry into herbalism was so similar to mine. I couldn't believe it. I did not need another person to express this for me to know that sorrel is like the recruiter of herbalists for the plant realm. She chooses who she knows will listen and share the information.

I have a long story that I can share about my best friend, confidant, doctor, and therapist, sorrel. However, this is simply a blog post where you would like to get some information and so I will keep this succinct. Just know that sorrel has walked with me through major transitions of life and spoke to me before I even knew that I needed her, and before I even understood that she was a flower.

In Jamaica we call her sorrel. In Florida, we call her Florida Cranberry. In the United States she is well known as Roselle Hibiscus. In Mexico she is called Flor de Jamaica.

She cools the body down and guards against the fatigue that may be caused by over exposure to the sun. She lowers blood pressure, cortisol, and helps to move blood through the body. She stabilizes the body by bringing it back to center.

On a spiritual level, she brings joy to the spirit. The oxygen that she helps to move efficiently through the body makes way for clear thinking. Which makes way to a clear and calm mind that can move from being clouded and deaf, so clear, open, and ready for divine messages.

Sorrel is the plant of Joy.

My Jamaican ancestry has served me well. When it comes to sorrel it is almost like a heal-all. I love the fact that it has always been a part of my life, and now I am happy to share its medicine with the world. Not just the fact that it makes a beautiful drink.

More information will added as time permits, so come back soon...
